David took the drink from Tweaker. He drained the glass. Kamui.EXE wasn't watching the effects.
Kamui.EXE pulled down her blast visor and began to run off in the direction indicated by David.
<< There should be a door comming up off to your right. You can re-route the power through there.>> says David.
Just before Kamui.EXe could open the door, she heard mesh fire and something shot her in the back of her right leg.
"OH! GRIDBUGS! NOT AGAIN!" Kamui.EXE yelps.
She spins around with her modified LOL rezzed up. She made a few calculations and began shooting at the enemy.

Tweaker was starting to get really, really annoyed at those infernal DataWraiths. He dodged the first volley of Mesh blasts, then strode to the center of the corridor and, with an irritated expression on his face, pulled out a Plane and resized it to fill the corridor. "Beat on that all you like! Let's go, Kamui, Harpo."
Tweaker opened the door and peeked inside to check for intruders. Finding none, he went inside and sat down at the power router. "This shouldn't take long."

I followed the two of them into the power router and frowned at the controls. "Hmm..." I walked over to a monitoring station and pressed a few buttons. a panel appeared, monitoring power output points. "Now, this is odd. Datawraiths are not true programs, as you know, so they have a unusual power signature, due to the fact that they draw power from their home system, not the system they're in. but... these Datawraiths have a fairly normal power input." I turned to the Wraith and made a transmission on Datawraith high encryption #1. <<I need to ask you something... when were you digitized?>>

<<A while ago. At least after a day we had the correction algorithims.>> says David.
"I heard that there are a few lost Datawraiths scattered around throughout the net. But it's a little weird that there's a bunch of them here. I wonder if Korri got them together before...." Kamui.EXE trails off.

"...That's something I need to talk to you about. well- um, should I tell her, Tweaker?"

[still tapping controls] "Go ahead, I'm still not sure what you're on about."

"What kind of information are you with holding from me? If it's mission critical, it's best to say what that is," kamui.EXE says.

I sighed and opened up my profiler. "This is my modded version of the standard profiler. I was able to but a tracer onto Korri before... you know. and, well, look at this." I showed Kamui the profiler readout, tracking Korri's position. "...She's down here. and moving."

Tweaker finished and stood up from the control panel. "I've frozen all the DataWraiths and other unauthorized programs down here, and locked the logic gates so no-one new can get in. Korruptika's Ghost has already corrupted the infrastructure, though. I think we're going to have to reinstall from backups."

"Is that what you think it is? I've heard about ghosts from the wraiths, but they are manifestations of derezzed Users... how could one exist here in our world?"

"Korruptika did more damage than I expected before we derezzed her. We deleted the virus' main executable, but the file corruption remains, and there's no easy way to scrub it out of the system's backcode. If this were just a few corrupted documents and MP3s it would be different, but... look at this."
Tweaker gestured to a wall in the distance, which was already cracking and beginning to glow green.
"I suppose it's possible Korruptika duplicated herself or managed to recontruct an executable from the corrupted data. I certainly hope not. And the antivirus sweep I did indicated the system was clean, though obviously it's not."
This is going to be a very bad day.

kamui muttered a few words under her breath after seeing the profiler.
Kamui.EXE poked her header out the door, ripped off a piece of tent and wrapped it around the mesh blast wound.
"So she needs to be solid if we can get her ghost image. But we currently don't HAVE anything," kamui.EXE says.
<<Oh yes you do.>> says David.
"What do you mean?" Kamui.EXE asks.
<<If you can get her to posses me and derezz her that way, you'll be able to stop this.>> David explains.
"But that would mean derezzing you. I don't think I can do that." says Kamui.EXE
<< Derezzing me would just send me back to my world. It wouldn't matter.>> says David.
Kamui.EXE was caught between an archive bin and a hard place. David had a good point but some how deep within her processes, she knew that she HAD to find a better way.

"I could do it," Tweaker said with a fiendish grin. "Not that I have anything against DataWraiths per se, it's just when they [starts counting on fingers] break into my system, terrorize the programs I'm supposed to take care of, steal information from me, and, oh yeah, break my server-- that annoys me.
"I'm not sure Korruptika has a ghost per se-- she's just corrupted all these system files. We might be able to reconstruct an executable from those corrupted files, but what for?"

"That won't really do us much good unless we have one solid program that we can capture. Maybe that can help us isolate the catalist." Kamui.EXE suggested.

[shrugs] I'm not sure how that would work. I think the best solution is just to back up and reformat. Of course, chances are that'll lose me my job... so if anyone can present a well-formed solution for scrubbing Korri out I'm all ears.
