ok... never mind. I didn't use the stream. I saw Kamui fall as I was about to walk through and stepped over to help her up. "Yes... that's why I came here in the first place, to get this file and sell it to the fed programs for a high price."

Kamui.EXE slapped her legs to see if she can get some feeling to them.
"IPeX, I need a quick fix, here." Says Kamui.EXE
<Here. Try this.> says IPeX dropping a round object in to kamui.EXE's hands.
Kamui.EXE uses the object.
"The true identity of this server is supprising. I'm wondering if there are other innocent programs," Kamui.EXe says as she gets up to test her feet.
< David was quite innocent without the corruption and we can't say much for Korri.> says IPeX.
IPeX turns his attention to Harpo.
<It almost seems they were derezzed in vain. I'm begining to thing Kamui.EXe should have kept them alive.> says IPeX.
Kamui's circuitry flickered to red. IPeX caught it out of the corner of his eyes and thought he was seeing things.
No! Is that Yami Kamui? The second personality? IPeX thought.
Harpo says something. IPeX focuses his attention back on Harpo. In that time frame when the two were talking, Kamui.EXe was walking toward the window with her circuits red.
In vain? IN VAIN?! Kamui.EXE thinks.
IPeX was about to make a reply when he hears the window smash and a horrifing cry that pearced the air with a mix of terrifying rage and horrible pain.
<KAMUI?!> IPeX yelps as he spins around to look out the window.
Kamui.EXE was gone.
<Oh my user! No! It's Yami Kamui!> IPeX exclames.
(OOC: "Yami" Is Japanese for dark. So Yami Kamui would be Kamui's dark side.)

Tweaker rezzed into the Control Panel and started sweeping his subroutines and .ini files into an archive bin. Tricked... Fooled... Those dishonorable script kiddies... He prepared to extract Daisy's armor, PEdit, and admin permissions from his runtime processes, then hesitated. He was in a position to do incalculable damage to Daisy's systems. He could lock everyone out, rearrange the subdirectories, or simply reformat. It would mean that every black hat on the Internet would be chasing him, of course, but it was a unique opportunity to strike a blow for Right. On the other hand, he had to consider the countless innocent programs like himself that were residing on this server. Slowly he moved his hand to a control and changed the administrator password to a random string of punctuation marks. That would slow down discovery of his efforts. Then he opened a directory navigator and began secure-deleting, one by one, all the warez, bots, and other utilites of crackdom residing on this server.
The task took several minutes. It rather shook The Tweaker that he was killing programs from a distance, with impunity, with no chance of open combat. These programs were by definition evil, however, and his duty left him no other option. When he was finished, he rearranged the directory structure on the server to confuse the Users even more, and then activated the auto-reformat sequence, putting a timer on it of thirty minutes. Then he picked up a microphone.
"Attention all programs, this is the Kernel. It has just come to my attention that this server is a Warez repository. All viral and hostile programs have been neutralized; however, in order to deny this server to the Users, I have activated this system's auto-reformat. You have thirty minutes to escape before deletion of the operating system will commence. Get yourselves to safety. End of line."
Tweaker put down the microphone, straightened himself slightly, and extracted Daisy's Admin package from himself. He laid it on the command table, then rezzed up a datastream and jumped to the exit port, hoping desperately he had done the right thing.

" 'Yami?' just a guess, but that means it's like some kind of alter ego, right?" IPeX nodded. <Evil alter ego. Close to that, anyway.> Then IPeX and I heard Tweaker's announcement. "Great... Y'know IPeX, Tweaker's a great guy, but he has terrible timeing." <Move it! We have 20 Millicycles to find Yami Kamui and get out of here. So... Get moving!> I put my head in my hands and shook my head. Kamui... you had to pick now to go all dark side, didn't you? then I took a breath and got a running start for the window. then I leaped through the window down to the quickly-clearing streets. IPeX followed.

<Yami Kamui is a very dangerous side. She's out of control in that state like she was at the Night of One Thousand. She has no idea what she's doing until her origional processing catches up to her. By that time, it's too late.> IPeX explains as he follows Harpo. <Usually the path of violence and destruction is usually a dead give away. In otherwords, everyone's in danger.>

Tweaker stood restlessly near the exit port. He'd expected that Harpo and Kamui would already be here; instead, he found himself waiting. He considered just leaving without them, but he wanted to say good-bye, and besides, Harpo needed his packet back.
Finally, he activated his chat line. "Harpo? I'm at the exit port. You coming?"

I ran along, following a path of destroyed archive bins and smashed walls. at least we aren't near heavy population... yet. then I felt Tweaker's ping and activated my chat line. "Tweaker! you have no idea how glad I am to hear you. here's the situation: you've got this system reformat going and Kamui appearantly decided now would be a good time to turn evil. IPeX says it some kind of 'dark side'. sort of a alter ego. while she's like this she has no idea what she's doing and will derezz anything- and anyone- that gets in her way. now, I don't know a lot about admins, but I'm thinking stopping the reformat is not a option right now, correct?"

Oh, crap. "I don't see why it would be a problem. Technically, the reformat hasn't started yet-- it should be as easy as cancelling the command. Stand by."
Tweaker returned to the Control Panel. Rezzing in, he grabbed the Admin permission off the control table, sat down, and tapped "CANCEL" on the quickly decrementing countdown screen.
[SYSTEM SELF-DESTRUCT HAS BEEN ACTIVATED. CANCEL UNAVAILABLE. REFORMAT WILL PROCEED IN 27:05.42.

Tweaker sighed and picked up his chat line again. "Harpo, I can't cancel the self-reformat. It looks like the dishonorable users who run Daisy were prepared to wipe this server and run at any time, and they coded the self-reformat to be non-cancelable. I could try and work around it, but... it's far from a sure thing. Probably better just to grab Kamui and get out of here."

IPeX and Harpo heard the PA system click on. They hear a voice.
"This is ICP unit 435B. We are under attack by a malicious program named Kamui.EXE. She is armed and considered danger---ACK!" the PA was cut off by the sound of something derezzing.
There's a new voice.
"There is NO right! No right at this server at all! Not perfect! For that you pay!" says the voice.
It sounded like Kamui.EXE but in a way it didn't. It sounded very evil.
<Harpo! She's in sector 7G-4512! That's a densly populated area!> IPeX says.
They were running out of time.

"Working on it." I took a right in another street and reached the sector. I looked out and there, in a open area, Kamui was derezzing every program she could find. despite how many programs there were, the ICPs were still valiantly trying to save the system. I leaned back and spoke to IPeX. "IPeX! how sensitive might her AI be to a severe code surge? I think I have a plan..."

<Harpo, I forgot to metion a few things about Yami. In Yami form, she has ten times more skill than she does in her normal form. Her energy is off the charts and it's imposible to get near her. In this state, I have no idea how sensitive her AI may be. I couldn't get close to check it.> IPeX explains.
There was a blur of red. The area was clear of programs and Yami Kamui was gone.
<Gridbugs! She's fast!>

"Yeah. fortunately..." I tweaked the input on my Profiler then spoke to IPeX. "I got a track on her position. if my plan works, speed won't matter." I took off running toward a data streamcenter, and spoke into my chat line: "Tweaker? is there any way you could get some serious lag here? I know it's a odd request, but pop-ups... 56k connections... whatever. can you do that?"

[comment]Looks like I've had a bit of lag too. Sorry! Commence posting spree!
"Make the system run slower? Sure, I can do that!"
Hmm... underclocking will slow down everything in the sector, and Harpo still won't be able to catch up. What we need is a speed limit...
Tweaker frowned. The plan he had in mind would mean significant modification to the system's OS and low-level processes-- that was usually the job of the Users. A Kernel's job was maintainence and routine security-- not rewriting the access profiles for an entire sector. It was possible, though, with a bit of adaptation. His code was very adaptable. He smiled and began writing a new .dll file.
/// new program: Bureaucrat.bat(MovementRequest)
On MovementRequest: Wait 1 //nanocycle AllowMove(1) //foot end.
spawn(Bureaucrat, 50, ProtectedMemory); ActivateQuarentineFields(157EA3A5:157EA700); DeactivateFOM(157EA3A5:157EA700); end. ///
"Harpo, you are about to get some serious lag!"
A pulse of light swept the sector as the new rules were implemented, and suddenly all programs found themselves unable to move except by submitting requests via ping to a panel of Bureaucrats. The bureaucrats would wait a nanocycle, then allow the program to move a foot in the direction they requested. Travel immediately became very jerky indeed. Tweaker shut off his mailbox to block the flood of complaints coming through. Most programs simply left the affected area, ICPs checking them out and letting them through the quarentine fields, leaving only Kamui, Harpo, IPeX, and a handful of ICPs and other stubborn programs who insisted on continuing their work. Tweaker keyed his chat line. "That should slow her down. Need any more admin commands, or should I rez in and help you finish some business?"

Yami Kamui knew something was different but it didn't slow down her intensity. She was strategizing. She had a plan. She pulled out sub_net.
<Gah! No!> says IPeX supprised.
Yami Kamui tossed the sub_net on her self and was gone.
<Oh! I just hate it when Yami uses her bag of tricks! You still have a lock on her, Harpo? I hope so!> says IPeX.
